Minoxidil is an FDA-approved vasodilator originally developed for hypertension that was found to promote hair regrowth. It is the most widely studied topical treatment for androgenetic alopecia and remains one of only two FDA-approved medications for hair loss.

Side Effects
- Scalp irritation and dryness
- Initial shedding phase (first 2-8 weeks)
- Unwanted facial hair growth (especially in women)
- Dizziness or lightheadedness (rare with topical use)
